Test Your Vocab is an interesting site run by a joint American-Brazilian research project that estimates the number of words based on your vocabulary. The test doesn’t take long and gives results instantly. It estimated my vocabulary at 38,400 words. Take the test and comment to let us all know how you do! nice total. i had 38,500. keep up the good work!
I apparently only know 29,600 – but I’m young(ish) and I’m claiming that! There were also some words were I was pretty sure I knew a definition or could use it in a sentence, but wasn’t wholly convinced I was right so left them unchecked. Still pretty neat.
